The air in Sapele buzzed with anticipation as the eve of a monumental two-day celebration, set to unite the community in a festival of development and entertainment on 27 and 28 september 2024

According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee, Godwin Dudu-Orumen, Esq., the Sapele Athletics Club, located at the local government headquarters, will host the well-curated two-day event packed with engaging programs.

The event kicked off on Friday morning, September 27, with a medical outreach that provided free health checks, immunizations, and consultations to residents. As the sun rose higher, locals lined up, grateful for the support, their smiles a testament to the outreach’s impact.

Later that day, the Business Summit began under the guidance of Delta State Higher Education Commissioner, Professor Nyerovbo Tonukare. “Unlocking the Investment Potentials in Sapele” was the theme, and the room was filled with eager entrepreneurs, investors, and curious attendees. The atmosphere crackled with energy as lead discussants, including the influential David Lweta and the insightful Godwin Ebosa, shared their visions for the future of Sapele. Ideas flowed, and hands shot up as participants engaged in lively debates, sparking connections that would last well beyond the summit.

As dusk fell, the atmosphere shifted to one of celebration. The evening featured a series of performances from local artists, with music and dance that celebrated Sapele’s rich cultural heritage. Families gathered around, sharing laughter and stories, while children spun in circles, their faces painted with joy.

The second day, September 28, began with an exciting novelty football match that pitted local teams against each other, drawing spectators from all corners of Sapele. Cheers erupted as players showcased their skills, embodying the community spirit that the celebration aimed to foster.

After the match, the event transitioned into a cultural showcase, where tables overflowed with a delightful array of African cuisines. From spicy egusi soup to savory pounded yam, attendees were treated to a feast that highlighted the flavors of Sapele’s diverse culinary landscape. The air was filled with laughter and chatter as people bonded over shared meals and stories.

As night descended, the gala night kicked off with elegance and flair. Dressed in their finest attire, guests enjoyed a night of entertainment, featuring live music, dance performances, and awards honoring local heroes. The Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Elder Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, graced the event, inspiring attendees with his vision for Sapele’s future.

“This celebration is a testament to our unity and resilience,” the governor proclaimed, raising a glass to the crowd. “Together, we can unlock the true potential of our beloved Sapele.”
