Shalkido’s father, Stephen Mungai, has expressed disappointment over musician Bahati’s reaction to his son’s untimely death, saying the singer’s public post offered little comfort to the mourning family.
In a YouTube interview on Wednesday, October 9, Mungai criticized Bahati for sharing private conversations with the late Gengetone artist online. “That does not help us in any way. I don’t even know what to say,” he remarked.
Bahati had earlier paid tribute to Shalkido following his fatal road accident, posting screenshots that showed the young artist asking for a music collaboration — messages that appeared unanswered. The singer later claimed his management had already spoken to Shalkido and that they had planned to record together. However, many fans and the family viewed ... as insensitive and attention-seeking.
Mungai described the loss as unbearable, revealing that Shalkido was his only child. “I have no other child. Just imagine the pain. Even his grandmother is unwell. She was the one who broke the news to me,” he said.
He added that burial arrangements remained uncertain due to long-standing differences between him and Shalkido’s mother, which have complicated planning.
Shalkido, best known as a member of the popular Gengetone group Sailors Gang, died on Sunday following a hit-and-run accident. He was rushed to Kenyatta University Hospital, where he was declared brain dead before later succumbing to his injuries.
Medical reports indicated that he suffered severe head trauma, internal bleeding, and multiple fractures.
His sudden death has left his family, fans, and fellow artists heartbroken, mourning the loss of a promising young talent whose life and career were tragically cut short.
