Scarlett Johansson has shared her thoughts on becoming the highest-grossing actor in the world. Johansson officially earned that title, based on global ticket sales, in July 2025, following the release of her latest movie, Jurassic World Rebirth. She is the first movie star in history to have a career box office total that exceeds $15 billion.
Access Hollywood recently asked Johansson how she felt about that honor during an interview for Johansson’s directorial debut, Eleanor the Great.
“Um, not really sure. Yeah, I’m sure it’s temporary. I try to remember it’s all temporary. I feel very fortunate to work on projects that I have been able to challenge myself, where there’s new things to learn. And the fact that some of these movies altogether can make a bunch of cash is great, too. Keeps the industry healthy.”

Eleanor the Great, which stars June Squibb, Erin Kellyman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rita Zohar, is now playing exclusively in movie theaters.
Scarlett Johansson’s Biggest Box Office Movies
Over 30 years and 60 feature film credits to her name, Johannson’s official box office total as of writing is at $15.39 billion. The next closest people to Johansson are her Marvel co-stars – Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldaña, and Chris Pratt. Based on that, you can tell the MCU movies, particularly the Avengers movies, are helping lead the way for Johansson and her co-stars.

However, there are a couple of non-MCU movies that have scored big at the box office for Johansson. In particular, 2016 was a big year. In addition to starring in Captain America: Civil War, which was kind of like Avengers 2.5, Johansson was part of the ensembles for Disney’s live-action The Jungle Book and the animated musical-comedy Sing. The three movies made a combined $2.75 billion.
How Long Will Scarlett Johansson Remain The Highest-Grossing Actor?
As Johansson said, these things are usually temporary. In fact, Johansson’s place as the highest-grossing actor of all time could come to an end by the time we flip the calendars to 2026, with her old MCU co-star Zoe Saldaña poised to take the top spot.
Saldaña’s Avatar: Fire and Ash releases on December 19, and if the movie follows in its predecessors’ footsteps as another massive hit, then Saldaña would leap frog Johansson. Of course, it’s not a guarantee, but Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water both made more than $2 billion, so there’s a decent chance.
