Security operatives have arrested hundreds of heavily armed political thugs during the ongoing by-election in Kano State.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, told reporters that the thugs were intercepted while attempting to move into Bagwai, where voting was taking place.
He added that another group of thugs in Shanono nearly disrupted the distribution of election materials before security personnel intervened to restore order.
Zango noted that although Shanono is often volatile during elections, the heavy presence of security operatives has so far ensured that the by-election is proceeding smoothly.
