The Nigerian Senate has directed the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) not to extend the December 31, 2025 deadline for the production of alcohol in sachets and small bottles.

The resolution followed a motion of urgent national importance moved by Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong (Cross River South) during Tuesday’s plenary.

Bassey warned that the continued sale and consumption of sachet and small-bottle alcohol poses a rising public health and social risk, especially among young Nigerians and commercial drivers.Buy vitamins and supplements

Lawmakers who contributed to the debate commended the motion, stressing the need for tighter control and early intervention to prevent addiction among youths.

Presiding, Senate President Godswill Akpabio described the Senate’s position as a timely intervention to safeguard public health and youth welfare. He urged NAFDAC to ensure full compliance with the ban by the end of 2025, warning that any extension would undermine national efforts to combat substance abuse.
