Former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Agboola Ayoola, popularly known as “Alleluyah,” has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State, bringing an end to his long-standing political affiliation with the party.
Ayoola, who hails from Itesiwaju Local Government Area, announced his resignation in a letter dated Friday, October 10, 2025, and addressed to the Oyo State leadership of the PDP.
The former lawmaker had a long career within the party, serving as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former governors Rashidi Ladoja and the late Adebayo Alao-Akala between 2003 and 2011.
He later represented Oyo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2011 to 2015, where he notably emerged as the only PDP senator elected from the entire South-West during that period.
In his resignation letter, which was made available to journalists in Ibadan, Ayoola expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform it provided him to contribute to governance at both the state and federal levels.
“I, Senator Agboola, a member and leader of the PDP at the state and national levels, sincerely appreciate the party for the opportunities given to me to serve and for the achievements we collectively recorded during my time,” he wrote.
Explaining his decision, Ayoola attributed his resignation to his future political ambitions, noting that his absence from the party’s recent local and state congresses was intentional.
“You would have observed that I did not participate in the recently held congresses, both at the local and state levels. This was a deliberate step, influenced by future political pursuits which I consider crucial at this point in time,” he stated.
He added by formally severing ties with the PDP, effective October 10, 2025, while extending goodwill to his former party.
“Consequently, I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with effect from October 10, 2025. I wish the party success in all its future endeavours,” he added.
