The Nigerian Senate has announced its plan to investigate the incessant brawl between airline officials and passengers in the country.
The Senate Committee on Aviation led by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai on Wednesday expressed concern over the altercations between passengers and airline staff in the past day.
According to Abdulfatai, the committee is set to launch an investigation into the operational standards within the nation’s aviation industry
Recall that within the past weeks, two incidents between staff of two different airlines have continued to cause outrage among citizens and industry leaders.
One of the incidents occurred between Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde popularly known as Kwam 1 and the staff of ValueJet Airline.
In this case, the passenger was disembarked from the airline for having suspected alcoholic content. This resulted in his standing in the way of the aircraft while the pilot taxied from the tarmac.
In another incident, a lady Comfort Emmanson engaged in a fistcuff with airline operatives leading to the stripping of her clothes, an act which Nigerians have deeply condemned.
However, in a statement, the committee chairman said the recent incidents call for immediate action.
He said the committee via its constituted power will ensure that the aviation industry is not degenerated.
“We will not allow procedural gaps or lapses in enforcement to undermine safety, professionalism, or public trust in our aviation system,” he stated.
