Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has confirmed that there were attempts to impeach the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Naijaonpoint reports that Kalu, former Governor of Abia State, made this known during an interview with journalists on Tuesday.

Kalu stressed that attempts to impeach Akpabio will not be allowed.

He said, “There were attempts, but we didn’t allow that to happen. We are one big family, and it’s not going to happen.”

Speaking about the state of the economy, Kalu acknowledged the ongoing hardship but maintained that macroeconomic indicators are improving.

He said both President Bola Tinubu and the Senate are working relentlessly to revive the economy and ensure food security.

He said, “As a businessman, I am feeling the pain too. The macro economy is doing well, but the micro economy is not. Foreign investors are coming in. What is left is for this progress to trickle down so people can eat daily and return to farming.”

Kalu emphasised that the National Assembly, under Akpabio, is committed to backing President Tinubu’s economic recovery drive through pro-people legislation.

He added, “Whatever the problem, the Senate is more interested in making laws that will help President Tinubu overcome the economic problems our people are going through. We are focusing on ensuring Nigerians can eat three times a day.”
