Mike Ozekhoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria has asked the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi to tender his resignation.
Ozekhome said if President Bola Tinubu does not listen to the AGF’s legal advice, then, it is time for Fagbemi to resign from the president’s cabinet as a minister.
Ozekhome’s call for Fagbemi’s resignation follows the Federal Government’s decision to withhold funds earmarked for Local Government Areas in Osun State.
He said such a political move is an indication that the FG may not be getting proper legal guidance from the AGF.
The AGF had in a recommendation letter asked that the Ministry of Finance release LGA allocations to all sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) officials in Osun State.
Describing this as undemocratic, Ozekhome said Tinubu must be reminded that he had suffered the same fate as a Lagos State governor under Olusegun Obasanjo as president.
“The Supreme Court held that the Federal Government could never withhold funds meant for local governments in Lagos State.
“If he did give the advice and the President ignored it, then he ought to resign,” the senior lawyer said.
