Seven perish, 14 injured in Jigawa auto crash

No fewer than seven people were killed, while 14 others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident on Sunday in Yakasawa village, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The crash involved a Golf 3 wagon and a Toyota Sienna, and occurred in the afternoon as residents and travellers were passing through the area.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with severely mangled vehicles and bodies scattered across the road.

A resident of Yakasawa, Haruna Aliyu, told journalist that the incident was horrifying.

“Vehicles were mangled, and bodies were scattered. I’ve never seen such a terrible accident in this area before; it’s really sad,” he said.

Confirming the incident, SP Shi’isu Adam, the police public relations officer of Jigawa State, said officers responded promptly after receiving a distress call.

“We rescued survivors and transported them to the nearest Ringim General Hospital. Our priority is to save lives,” he said.

Adam added that seven victims died at the scene, while 14 others are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we’ll determine the cause of the accident,” he stated.

He further stressed the need for collective responsibility in preventing road accidents.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s work together to prevent such accidents.”

Recall that on December 31, 2025, 18 people were killed and two others critically injured in a multiple-vehicle crash along the Dutse–Kiyawa Road in Jigawa State.
