‘She is Lame’: Lauren Boebert Would Not Vote for ‘C-ap’ Sandwich Debt Deal

No surprise, Representative Lauren Boebert opposes the Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling deal.

Actually, Boebert wasn’t even present to vote for the deal.

And although reports emerged last week suggesting that Boebert missed the vote because she was simply late to work, Boebert has since claimed that she intentionally missed voting on the debt deal.

While not all might agree, one former Republican National Committee member called Boebert “lame” and “should have at least showed up to vote.”

Lauren Boebert posts fiery video

In a video posted to social media, Lauren Boebert denounced the debt deal. “No excuses, I was ticked off they wouldn’t let me do my job, so I didn’t take the vote,” Boebert said. “Once again Washington’s power machine shoved a multi-trillion-dollar bill down our throats, refused to allow debate or amendments, disregarded everything we fought for in January to actually allow representatives to do their jobs. Instead, they served us up a crap sandwich.”

Boebert continued, “call it a no-show protest, but I certainly let every one of my colleagues and the country know I was against this garbage of a bill, and against bypassing the voice of each representative. Deals cut in the dark are why we’re headed towards $36 trillion in debt, and I refuse to be a part of it.”

The House voted overwhelmingly to raise the debt limit

The Biden-McCarthy deal had no problem passing in the House; 314 voted in favor, 117 voted against. In all, Lauern Boebert joined the 71 Republicans who voted against the deal (46 Democrats also voted to oppose the deal).

The bill passed because it will suspend the debt limit until January 2025 – averting economic disaster in the process. A coalition of centrists made the deal possible, whereas both the left and the right were opposed to the deal for different reasons.

On the right, the House Freedom Caucus was vocally opposed to the dealing, vowing to “do everything in our power” to stop the deal from passing. While Boebert did not show up to vote ‘no,’ dozens of Republicans did, including Paul Gosar, George Santos, Scott Perry, Matt Gaetz, and Harriet Hageman.

Curiously, a few dozen progressives also voted against the deal – albeit for an entirely different set of reasons than the right-wingers. Whereas the right was opposed to the deal for allowing the country to go further into debt, progressives denounced the deal for increasing military spending, preserving tax benefits for billionaires, and imposing work requirements on entitlement programs.

“This is not a deal that upholds progressive values,” Representative Ro Khanna said. “It increases spending for defense and limits the pot of money for everything else.”

As The Nation reported, progressives legislators “criticized Biden for negotiating a ‘bad deal’ that warps budget priorities to favor the military-industrial complex and corporate elites while doing harm to the poor and the planet.”

“A particular bone of contention for progressives on both sides of Capitol Hill,” The Nation continued, “was the green-lighting of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a West Virginia project favored by fossil fuel companies and Senator Joe Manchin, that has been broadly opposed by environmental groups.”

So, Boebert is not alone. Different representatives dislike the deal for different reasons. What will be interesting to keep an eye on moving forward is how the deal affects McCarthy’s standing within the GOP. Obviously, the deal puts him on a shakier footing with the Boebert-crowd – although he was never on sure footing with that crowd, to begin with.
