A tragic daylight shooting has left residents of Burgersfort in shock after a young woman was killed at a busy shopping centre.

The incident happened on Sunday February 8 at Burgersfort Twin City Shopping Centre. Witnesses say Thobile was walking when her husband Jerry Gumede aged 54 arrived in a car. He reportedly stepped out approached her and shot her at close range. Moments later he allegedly turned the gun on himself.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene but Thobile was declared dead on the spot. Her husband also suffered a fatal gunshot wound though police are still confirming the full circumstances.
Thobile was a teacher at Good Hope Academy and tributes have poured in from heartbroken colleagues learners and community members who described her as kind and dedicated.
Police have opened a murder case and an inquest as investigations continue.
