Sheffield United boss looks to build on win as subs come to the rescue

Sheffield United manager Slavisa Jokanovic hopes his side can keep winning games after huge 2-1 win against Stoke.

Conceding early in the second half, Jokanovic responded by bringing on Lys Mousset and David McGoldrick. Both forwards grabbed their first goals of the campaign, with the latter scoring late on.

The win for United means they’re now five league games unbeaten at Bramall Lane – winning four.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Jokanovic said: “85% of the time we were in control we were a bit flat after the goal but I believe we play with enough brain to move the ball and find the spaces for the victory and we were patient.

We had 10 minutes where we were flat and did not know what we were doing but it’s a huge victory and boost for us.”

The home side were coming off the back of an unlucky 2-1 defeat away at Bournemouth before the international break.

“We did not deserve a loss last time against a top team in Bournemouth,” added Jokanovic. “We created a lot and been punished a lot in the games but we have energy and trust to play the game in the right direction.”

“This can be a really important boost for us against one of the best teams in the Championship.”

Blades now climb to 13th in the league as they host Millwall next Tuesday.

Mousset and McGoldrick save Blades

Super subs Lys Mousset and David McGoldrick ensured their side would take all three points on Saturday.

Featuring for only the second time this season, Mousset opened his account for the campaign to level the scores. His strike partner, McGoldrick then was on hand to secure the victory for the Blades.

“McGoldrick and Mousset score the goals we tried to find a bit more energy we felt we were without a little power and energy and they participated in this victory,” said Jokanovic.

“Participation from the bench is important.”

Jokanovic faces a selection headache every week as he has five available strikers, who are all Championship-level quality.

“It’s a question of balancing the team I must do what I believe is best for us,” said Jokanovic.

“I must start with 11 and put people on the bench and everyone must contribute and I am pleased they have participated but everyone even if not on the pitch it’s important to have bright mind and be ready.”
