A former lawmaker, Shehi Sani has reacted to the move by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to increase the salaries and wages of political office holders across Nigeria.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Eighth Senate said the plan to increase salaries of political office holders appears smooth and seamless.

Recall that despite public outrage RMAFC announced that it has formally begun the review of remuneration packages for political and public officers in Nigeria.

The exercise would lead to significant changes in the earnings of these officers including the president, vice presidents and other key officers.

This review of the officials’ remuneration follows that of the judicial officers which was approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024.

Reacting to this review, Sani observed the swift manner in which RMAFC moved to review the salaries of the offices.

Making a comparison, the former lawmaker said the increase of minimum wage for Nigerian workers from N30,000 to N70,000 was only made possible after a litany of industrial actions and protests.

He wrote on X, “Raising the minimum wage from 30k to 70k took years of strikes, protests and tough negotiations.

“Increasing the salaries for political office holders is about to happen…so smoothly or seamlessly. RMFAC is wonderful,” Sani said.
