PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu will not attend this year’s 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York as he has appointed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation.
This information was provided in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
The statement indicated that after returning from his recent trip to China and the UK, President Tinubu aims to concentrate on domestic matters, particularly in light of the recent severe flooding in parts of the country.
At UNGA 79, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in key sideline events, and engage in bilateral meetings.
The high-level General Debate will take place from September 24 to September 28, 2024, with the theme: “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.”
