VICE President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to uphold tolerance and peaceful coexistence, stressing that unity remains essential to the country’s growth and development.
Shettima made the appeal today in Jos, Plateau State, during a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Royal Majesty, Jacob Gyang Buba.
He described Nigeria’s diversity as a collective strength rather than a source of division, noting that citizens share a common heritage that transcends ethnic and religious differences.
According to the Vice President, sustainable development cannot thrive in the absence of peace, emphasising that what unites Nigerians is far greater than what divides them.
While in Plateau State for the grand reception of Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other political leaders into the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shettima commended traditional rulers for their role in fostering harmony within their communities.
He described them as custodians of culture and peace, noting their influence in promoting stability and reconciliation.
Shettima also welcomed the growing political collaboration between APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and Governor Mutfwang, describing it as a positive step that would enhance peace and deliver greater democratic benefits to the people of Plateau State.
Governor Mutfwang, in his remarks, lauded the working relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, expressing confidence that their partnership would continue to yield positive outcomes for the nation.
Responding, the Gbong Gwom Jos appealed for increased security measures and genuine reconciliation efforts to address the challenges facing Plateau State and other parts of the country.
He urged Nigerians to reject violence and embrace mutual respect, stressing that both Islam and Christianity do not condone lawlessness or bloodshed.
The royal father thanked the Vice President and other political leaders for the visit and the political realignment, describing it as a welcome development for the state and the country at large.
