Popular American rapper, Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, on Monday shocked many Nigerians after tweeting in Nigerian pidgin English.
It all started after the 41-year-old called out an X user in Pidgin English for using her name to chase clout and make money.
She wrote, “I must be the only person you can make money off mentioning. Go 1 day. Abeg. GO ONE FUCKING DAY WITHOUT FKNG LYING ABEG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
... attracted Nigerian X users, who become curious on how the popular American rapper became so adept in pidgin English.
Reacting to ..., an X user @tyxhndrxx, who questioned the rapper’s proficiency in pidgin, wrote, “Who Dey teach Nicki Minaj pidgin language?”
Another user, hott_galz wrote: “She say wetin be the confusion?”
fabulosgloria wrote: “Una don stress Nicki so tey e don go learn pidgin English.”
In response to the numerous reactions, Nicki Minaj disclosed that she’s not a novice when it comes to speaking pidgin English, adding that she can read all the pidgin posted on the X timeline.
She wrote, “Wetin be the confusion? I Dey have eyes o? I can read all the pidgin weh una pikin de put on my timeline every day. “SUCKS TEETH LOUDLY.”
