Rapper Silentó has broken his silence after being sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder.
“I will continue to make music and work on becoming the best possible version of myself,” a statement shared by his publicist reads. “I can’t reverse time, but I can serve the time I’ve been given lawfully, and strive to positively contribute to whatever my new environment may be.
He continued, “I entered this industry as a teenager, often without proper guidance or direction. While that is not an excuse, it is part of my truth. I pray for growth, evolution, and the ability to find forgiveness — for myself and for this entire situation. God bless y’all.”
The sentence came after the rapper entered a plea of guilty but mentally ill this past June on multiple charges, including voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and concealing the death of 34-year-old Frederick Rooks III.
He received 20 years for the voluntary manslaughter charge, while the firearm possession and concealing death counts each added five years to his sentence. He has remained incarcerated since his arrest in February 2021.
