While he made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise in 2021, Simu Liu will finally get to join forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Doomsday. With The Multiverse Saga set to conclude in 2027, the anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday is higher than ever.
During a new interview with ComicBook, Liu was asked about what awaits the MCU rookie after his return in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor shared how “I would keep doing [Shang-Chi sequels] as long as I as I physically could.”
The 36-year-old actor added, “I was just in like quite a large Marvel movie with a lot of these actors, some of whom have been playing the same role for like over 20 years.” Liu continued about how it was to share the screen with some of the veteran stars, “And I’m stepping into their world. I’m stepping into their characters, who they’ve owned and honed and developed for so long.”
The Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings also shared, “And it’s everything I can do just to like stop myself from shaking. But the thought that kind of powers me is this: you’ve still got to show up and you’ve got to try your best. Try your best to get something usable in there and get out of your own way. I feel like a lot of times we use impostor syndrome or insecurity as an excuse not to show up.”
Liu concluded his response about his Avengers: Doomsday and MCU experience, “If we can just not make it about ourselves for a second and just focus on the work that you have to do. What is the objective? What is my objective as this character? Then you just take it a step at a time, and then hopefully when you do it for 40 years, someone will be looking at you and being like ‘Holy crap, what I would give to do work like that.’”
The Avengers: Doomsday cast finished filming on September 19, 2025, but while many of the actors have already been revealed by Marvel Studios, the line-up isn’t complete yet. Kevin Feige stated during CinemaCon 2025 that they have more casting announcements to share in the future for the 2026 installment.
As the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is confirmed to arrive in December 2025, the footage could potentially reveal some of the mystery players that have yet to be revealed. Anthony and Joe Russo directed the film and will also helm Avengers: Secret Wars, the final movie in The Multiverse Saga.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
