SINOVAC’s COVID-19 Vaccine Receives Emergency Use Authorization in Brazil for Children Aged 3-5 Years



BEIJING-July 14, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sinovac Biotech Ltd. (“SINOVAC” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: SVA), a leading Chinese supplier of biopharmaceutical products, announced that its COVID-19 vaccine (CoronaVac) was approved by Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency, Anvisa, on July 13 Emergency admission for children between 3 and 5 years old. Children in this age group receive the same dose as children aged 6 to 17 years and adults. There is no restriction on use in immunocompromised children aged 3 to 5 years.

This approval was granted on the basis of comprehensive evaluations based on the analysis of all available data on the vaccine and its use in children. The analysis was based on data from the Instituto Butantan, on research data from Chile, where the vaccine is already being used in this age group, on research results on the Covid-19 vaccination in Brazil, on opinions from invited medical societies, on real-world findings and on data from scientific publications.

The SBP (the Brazilian Association of Paediatricians), the SBI (the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases), the SBPT (the Brazilian Society of Pneumology and Phthisiology), the SBIm (the Brazilian Society of Vaccination) and Abrasco took part in this evaluation (the Brazilian Association for Collective Health). In order to be able to support the Anvisa health authority in evaluating the vaccine, the experts from the institutes mentioned had access to specialist materials and research data on the vaccine.

The CoronaVac vaccine has been approved in Brazil for the emergency treatment of adults since January 17, 2021. As a result, on January 20, 2022, Anvisa approved the extension of vaccine use to children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years.

As of July 14, 2022, CoronaVac has been approved for emergency treatment of minors in 14 countries and regions including Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and various countries and regions in Asia and Africa.
