Amid the social media buzz following the controversy involving veteran Fuji singer, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as KWAM1, and Valuejet, the female pilot involved has been identified as Captain Oluranti Ogoyi.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in a statement by its spokesperson, Obiageli Orah, alleged that KWAM1 brought an alcoholic beverage aboard the commercial flight in contravention of aviation rules.
The breach reportedly followed a commotion onboard the flight, allegedly caused by Kwam 1’s conduct.
Consequently, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) blacklisted Mayegun of Yorubaland for six months on Thursday, while the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, maintained that KWAM1 must be punished.
Keyamo described the musician’s conduct as unacceptable and warned that such behaviour could have led to a tragic outcome.
However, KWAM1, through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Kunle Rasheed, clarified that the flask contained only water, not alcohol, contrary to the flight attendant’s claim.
He dismissed the allegations as exaggerated and misleading, noting that he was, in fact, the victim in the incident, a narrative at odds with accounts provided by FAAN and those circulating the rumour.
According to Legit, the pilot, Captain Oluranti, is the daughter of Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2007.
– Oluranti is fondly referred to as “Rantilicious” by her friends and colleagues.
– The female pilot, who has nearly a decade of flying experience, began her career with Arik Air and spent several years refining her skills.
– She later joined ValueJet and has remained one of the airline’s best female pilots.
– Oluranti’s promotion to full captain occurred in September 2021, following years of service as a first officer. The feat was recognised in a ceremonial decoration ceremony organised by Arik Air’s then-CEO, Captain Roy Ilegbodu, together with Captain Adetokunbo Adekunbi and Captain Chris Najomo, who is currently the NCAA Director General.
– Captain Oluranti is married to fellow pilot Isaac Ogoyi Jr., who began his career at Arik Air. He later moved on to RwandAir and now flies for Uganda Airlines. Together, they make an amazing aviation power couple.
