The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has endorsed Governor Ahmed Aliyu as its sole candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election, following a vote of confidence in his administration.
The state party chairman, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, announced the endorsement during an interview, citing what he described as the governor’s achievements in critical sectors, including water supply, education, infrastructure, civil service welfare, and security.
“Governor Ahmed Aliyu has, in less than two years, delivered on his campaign promises and restored public trust in governance. The party is convinced that his performance makes him the best choice to continue beyond 2027,” Achida said.
He added that the APC’s decision was informed by what the party considers prudent financial management and people-focused policies under the current administration.
Achida also acknowledged the role of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko in shaping the APC’s dominance in the state, describing him as a mentor and a key figure in Sokoto politics. According to him, the political structure established by Wamakko provided the foundation for the party’s current strength.
“The partnership between Senator Wamakko and Governor Ahmed Aliyu has helped maintain stability within the APC and across the state,” he noted.
While stressing that the party remains open to internal competition, Achida said the Sokoto APC is confident that no aspirant could rival the governor’s record in office so far.
