Troops of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued eight out of 10 persons abducted by suspected terrorists during a wedding ceremony in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
A senior source at the Army Headquarters confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
The source disclosed that an unspecified number of armed men, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, stormed the wedding venue on Wednesday and abducted the victims.
According to the source, troops who were positioned in an ambush along the Yankwada River line swiftly moved to the area after receiving a distress call. They engaged the fleeing attackers at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State.
The soldiers reportedly pursued the assailants up to the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before losing contact.
During the operation, eight of the abducted girls were rescued and have since been reunited with their families.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and safely recover the remaining two victims.
The source added that security operations in the area are continuing to ensure the safe return of those still in captivity and to prevent further attacks. (NAN)
