Soludo Takes Early Lead As INEC Uploads 99% Of Results

Soludo1

Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, is leading other contenders as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues uploading results from Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.

As of 10 p.m., INEC had uploaded 99.14 per cent of polling unit results on its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), despite widespread allegations of vote-buying and other electoral infractions.

Although election materials arrived early in many polling units, turnout remained relatively low across the 21 local government areas.

This was despite the increased collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the state before the poll.

A total of 2,802,790 registered voters were eligible to participate in the election, including 140,370 newly registered voters across 326 wards.

The election held in 5,718 polling units, as two units had no registered voters. Sixteen political parties fielded candidates, including two women.

A preliminary review of uploaded results shows Soludo leading in his strongholds, especially in Aguata LGA in Anambra South and several parts of Anambra Central Senatorial District.

Early tallies indicate a two-horse race between APGA and the All Progressives Congress (APC), whose candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, trails in most polling units uploaded so far.
