Senator Adams Oshiomhole has sparked reactions with remarks he made while defending the government’s economic reforms on Channels Television.
Naijaonpoint reports that during the interview, Oshiomhole addressed questions about whether the reforms have negatively affected ordinary Nigerians.
He insisted that the reforms were meant to bring change and denied reports that they had caused hardship.
According to him, many of the concerns raised were not based on facts but were mostly speculative.
He added that, contrary to some perceptions, there are Nigerians who feel that food prices are now becoming more affordable.
Oshiomhole challenged the idea that average citizens are suffering, asking whether there was real evidence of widespread complaints.
Oshiomhole said, “The truth is we promised radical reforms. Who are the average persons? You pick these things from the mouth of the people. Have you gone to see people complaining? There are Nigerians now saying food is becoming too cheap.”
In other news, Oshiomhole has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s tax policy is consistent with the values of a progressive government.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television, he stated that the tax reforms shift the burden from the poor to the rich.
He said he was among the lawmakers who supported the tax bill that eventually became law.
Oshiomhole said, “The facts on the ground show that President Tinubu’s tax policy is consistent with the values of a progressive government.
“And this is a progressive tax policy that places a higher burden on those who earn more while offering tax exemptions to those who earn less.”
