A woman who had been evading capture following the brutal murder of her husband has been apprehended in South Africa. Hallimah Thamando Mnyobisi, 38, was arrested on Monday, November 26, 2024, at a luxury residence in Sandton, Gauteng, where she had been hiding with her alleged boyfriend. She was later charged in connection with the murder of her husband, Fezile Mnyobisi, a 35-year-old teacher from Botshabelo, Free State.
Fezile Mnyobisi was fatally stabbed more than 30 times on September 15, 2024. His wife Hallimah brought him to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The circumstances surrounding his death quickly raised suspicions, prompting an intensive investigation by Botshabelo detectives working in conjunction with the provincial investigative psychology section.
The investigation led to the arrest of three individuals, including two men—Vusumuzi Daniel Nqele, 43, and Moeketsi Innocent Manko, 35—who were taken into custody on November 8, 2024, on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. In addition, the deceased’s brother-in-law, Abdool Thamando, 35, was arrested in Johannesburg.
Initially, police believed Hallimah Mnyobisi was on the run in a black Mazda CX-5, but further intelligence revealed she had switched to a white BMW. Investigators tracked her down to a complex in Sandton, where she was found hiding in one of the luxury units.
Mnyobisi appeared before the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, November 28, 2024, and will join the other three suspects in court on December 3, 2024, for a formal bail application. Authorities are continuing to investigate the motive behind the murder, as well as the extent of the involvement of all suspects.
