The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has alleged that activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, did not complete the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
He made the claim while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, insisting that Sowore was posted for service but failed to report.
According to him, “Sowore doesn’t have a NYSC certificate because of punitive reasons. He was posted to Adamawa, and he was evasive. He never did his service.“
The Commissioner defended his competence after Sowore reportedly questioned his authority and credibility.
Jimoh said during the interview, “During this interview, and it’s very good I responded to it, you said that the commissioner of police is not competent. I’m very competent. I’ve been here for more than nine months…”
He went on to accuse Sowore of encouraging unrest in Lagos, saying such behaviour cannot be tolerated.
Jimoh added, “So such kind of person that doesn’t even be qualified to bear the NYSC certificate of a great country, Nigeria, will now be calling out miscreants to come and disturb the peace of Lagos. We will not allow it.”
He noted that Sowore had been declared wanted and must appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department for questioning.
“So my pronouncement, that is declared wanted this time. And he should report at the DCCID party for further investigation,” he stated.
However, at the time of this press report, human rights activist, Sowore is yet to react to this claim by the Lagos Police Commissioner.
