Sowore Recounts Police Gunshots During #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest

FreeNnamdiKanu Protest

The convener of the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies of unprovoked attack on protesters.

Naijaonpoint reports that the protest was aimed at getting the attention of President Bola Tinubu to release Kanu, who is currently detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) on the orders of the Nigerian government.

The protesters were meant to march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, but police officers blocked the road while shooting teargas canisters at the protesters.

In a viral video online, Sowore could be seen running for his life, alongside other protesters.

Speaking to journalists on the situation of the protest, Sowore disclosed that the protesters were peaceful and orderly, as he had promised, but security agents opened fire on them.

He said, “They didn’t particularly have any leadership; there were about 10 trucks that arrived at the same time as soon as we started the protest and people were coming around.

“There was no provocation on our part; it was orderly and peaceful; it was an unprovoked attack from the police force and a combined team of security people.”

Recall that the Nigeria Police Force had warned the organizers against staging any protest near the Villa.
