Popular Nigerian singer, Darlington Achakpo, also known as Speed Darlington, has been officially arraigned in court and granted bail.

Naijaonpoint reports that his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, posted about the development on X on Wednesday following his court appearance.

Adeyanju wrote, “Police finally arraigns Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.”

The statement indicates that the process of securing Darlington’s bail is underway, following his court appearance.

Speed Darlington’s Legal Battle

This latest legal development comes after Speed Darlington’s legal team filed a petition with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, seeking compliance with a court order regarding his detention.

The singer’s counsel, Rosemary E. Hamza, from the Chambers of Deji Adeyanju & Partners, had emphasized that the court order issued by Justice M.S. Liman on December 23, 2024, instructed the police to either charge Speed Darlington within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.

Speed Darlington’s legal troubles began in October 2024, when he was arrested over allegations of defamation and cyberstalking against Burna Boy.

He was initially detained in Lagos before being transferred to Abuja, where he was held by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area of the city.

After his release, Speed Darlington was re-arrested in November while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State, shortly after returning to Nigeria.
