Yet another Stephen King story is being developed for the big screen. The horror author’s works have been adapted countless times over the past several decades. Just in 2025 alone, The Monkey, The Long Walk, and The Running Man have been released in theaters, and The Institute and It: Welcome to Derry have aired on TV and streaming services.
According to Deadline, King’s short story Mister Yummy, which was first released in 2015 as part of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams collection that includes 19 other short stories, will be turned into a movie by Intrinsic Value Films, with Troy Blake writing the script and Thomas Mahoney producing.
A director and cast members haven’t signed on to the project just yet, since it’s still in the very early development stages.
Mister Yummy tells a “haunting tale” about a senior citizen named Ollie Franklin who must uniquely deal with mortality. He’s confronted with an avatar that signals the end of his life, but this avatar shows up in the form of Mister Yummy, a man Ollie once met at a New York dance club when he was younger.
His friend Dave Calhoun questions Ollie’s sanity after hearing about the avatar, but shocking twists and turns force Dave to confront his own past.
Intrinsic Value Films co-founder Aimee Schoof said that she can’t wait to expand the company’s brand with its upcoming projects, including Mister Yummy, a Gene Wilder biopic, and The Story of Wham-O. Intrinsic’s head of development, Megan Freels Johnston, said that they always set out to “make filmmaking meaningful” while focusing on great stories and strong integrity.

After The Bazaar of Bad Dreams was released, the development process began to adapt a few of the short stories as movies, including Mile 81, The Little Green God of Agony, and Drunken Fireworks, though none of these projects have made much progress in recent years.
Now, Mister Yummy is the latest short story from that 2015 collection to begin that same book-to-screen adaptation journey.
While several of King’s stories have been adapted for the big and small screen multiple times over the years, including Carrie, IT, The Shining, Pet Sematary, Salem’s Lot, The Mist, The Stand, and Misery, this is the first time that Mister Yummy will be seen in movie form.
Considering the slow-moving development process of the other Bazaar of Bad Dreams stories, King’s audience may have to wait a while for Mister Yummy‘s debut.
Aside from Mister Yummy, which doesn’t have a release date yet, several more of King’s stories, such as Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV series, Billy Summers, Fairy Tale, and Overlook, will also receive the adaptation treatment in the coming years.
There will also be a second season of Stephen King‘s The Institute, and plans are already underway for additional seasons of Welcome to Derry, though an official renewal hasn’t been announced.
