Street Fighter 6 is becoming one of Capcom’s most anticipated games for 2023, with the game taking on a bold and creative direction. The visuals and style of the game are a marked departure from previous entries like Street Fighter 4 and 5. With the game’s direction taking on a more urban and grounded look and feel, it gives a unifying theme of being an urban street fighter. This is emphasized by the music of Street Fighter 6, being influenced by hip-hop culture much like Street Fighter 3.
Some of these new tunes have been revealed already, showing off themes for veteran fighters Ryu and Chun-Li that have a different feel to them in comparison to their music in previous entries. Even Guile’s theme in Street Fighter 6 is a big departure from the memetic rendition from Street Fighter 2. Capcom has recently shown off more music from the game that will play for two more members of the playable roster, the recently revealed Kimberly and Juri.
For the newcomer of Street Fighter 6 Kimberly, her theme takes on a mixture of techno and hip-hop, with some chiptune thrown in that is representative of her love of the 80s. The official Street Fighter 6 account describes it as being a modern take on being a ninja, which is reflected in her theme’s title; Ninjastar Pop. Astute fans of the character know that she is a student of Guy from Final Fight, with many fans noting that her theme has an homage to the first stage’s theme.
Since Street Fighter 6 revealed Juri and Kimberly together, Capcom also gave fans a look at the returning femme fatale’s theme music. This theme is known as ArachniD**, which contains the same elements of hip-hop and techno, though given a much more sinister edge due to her nature as a femme fatale. The official account for Street Fighter 6 describes it as being a feeling of dread, much like a spider who has trapped its prey in an alluring web. Considering all the spider imagery that Juri is typically associated with along with her sadistic personality, that description seems to fit her well.
Many fans loved these new themes for both characters’ appearances in Street Fighter 6. Some had praised Juri’s theme for its edge, with praise noted towards the usage of a kiss sound at the end of Juri’s track, which gives the image of her giving out a “kiss of death” as well. Fans who loved Kimberly’s theme loved the direction it went, keeping it modern while paying homage to Final Fight.
Street Fighter 6 is currently scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
