Resident doctors across Nigeria have been directed to ensure they hand over all their patients to appropriate medical personnel before November 1, 2025.
This directive was given to the resident doctors by the leadership of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
According to NARD’s president, Mohammad Suleiman, the association would be embarking on an indefinite nationwide strike on November 1.
Suleiman said NARD’s decision followed a five-hour meeting of the association’s national executive council (NEC) on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Sunday, he added that the directive also follows the expiration of the 30-day ultimatum earlier handed to the Nigerian government over its unmet demands.
Suleiman added that among other demands, NARD is calling for a 200 per cent increase in the consolidated medical salary structure (CONMESS) and full implementation of new allowances proposed in July 2022.
He also noted that the association is demanding the immediate recruitment of clinical staff, and the removal of bottlenecks hindering the replacement of retiring doctors.
Further noting that the association has deployed a “strike monitoring” team, Sulieman said a ‘no work, no pay/no pay, no work’ initiative has also been implemented.
In addition, he called on all National Officers Committee (NOC) to ensure the full compliance of the strike directive issued to members while all chapter presidents and secretaries are, by this directive, mandated to convene emergency congress meetings.
Suleiman said the meetings would create the opportunity for members to be briefed on the resolutions reached by the association’s executive.
He warned government agents and actors to desist from any manipulative plans against NARD’s resolution.
