Nigerian students have taken to social media to call out the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) over alleged irregularities in its loan disbursement process.
According to several posts circulating online, while some students have been left unpaid for two consecutive months, others reportedly received double payments within the same month.
Students reminded NELFUND that the original agreement was for each beneficiary to receive ₦20,000 every month per semester. However, they claim the agency has failed to keep to that arrangement, leaving many stranded.
“How can NELFUND promise ₦20k monthly per semester but skip two months for some of us, yet pay others twice in one month? It’s unfair and confusing,” one frustrated student wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The inconsistencies, they say, have worsened the financial struggles of students, especially amid rising costs of food, transportation, and other basic needs on campus.

Despite publishing daily disbursement reports, NELFUND has yet to directly address the growing complaints of unequal and delayed payments. Students are now demanding transparency and accountability, urging the agency to fulfill its own terms of agreement.
