THE Super Eagles media team has dismissed concerns about the side’s accommodation in Rabat, Morocco for the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs.
The response followed a video shared by Alex Iwobi showing his view of a rundown-looking compound from the hotel, which drew negative reactions from Nigerians on social media, who felt the hotel was not fitting for the Super Eagles.
Iwobi later clarified that it was only the view from his room and he had no complaints about the hotel.
“The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,” the media team clarified.
“Rive was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium here in Rabat.”
Checks on travel website TripAdvisor revealed mixed reviews by previous users of the hotel, some praising the location and facilities, and others complaining about the surroundings, especially an all-night entertainment spot that causes noise pollution.
“I give 3 stars because the food was delicious and the restaurant room was very beautiful,” one guest wrote in December 2023.
“The staff were really courteous. Very nice common rooms. But… The rooms and furnishings are not comparable to a 4 star. Everything old and dated! There are some rooms that overlook a street where there is a disco and you can’t sleep at night.”
A guest who stayed in the hotel in February this year wrote: “Room ok.
The restaurant has no menu in English. We had to use the Google translator.
“Neighboring disco makes a lot of noise.
We asked at the reception to put in a room away from the disco but we were not served.”
A more recent review, done in July 2025, said: “STAY AWAY! HORRIBLE PLACE! Don’t waste your money here!!!
“They have a night club in the hotel that blasts music till 1:30 am. You can hear it in every room!
“The staff is friendly and good, but the issue is with the hotel’s management!
“We asked for a room change which took 72 hours , four calls, and two emails.
“The rooms are outdated and overrun by ants. Location is good and walking distance to a lot of touristy places in the city.”
However, a guest who stayed at the hotel in September, has a very positive review of the Rive Hotel, writing: “Frankly nothing to say, they are super welcoming, too nice whether at the restaurant or the magnificent welcoming.
“I arrived around 7pm on September 12 the mister at the reception was super nice. He teased me and I felt really safe. Thank you so much for your professionalism.
“The hotel is clean and not far from the airport and downtown. The rooms were clean unlike other reviews. I recommend for you with your eyes closed.”
The Super Eagles will face Gabon on Thursday in the first semi-final of the African play-offs for the World Cup, with the winners advancing to battle Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final.
