TWO of the outstanding performers for the Super Eagles last night in their 3-1 victory over Uganda at the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Raphael Onyedika and Ryan Alebiosu, had contrasting fortunes after the encounter.
While Onyedika was deservedly voted Man of the Match, debutant Alebiosu is facing the unwanted prospect of missing the rest of the tournament.
Club Brugge midfielder Onyedika, making his first start in Morocco, scored twice in the fixture as the Super Eagles finished the group phase with the full nine points.
Onyedika struck twice in four second-half minutes to make it 3-0 after Paul Onuachu had opened the scoring in the first period.
Meanwhile, there was a grim update from the Super Eagles camp concerning Alebiosu after the game.
Although the Blackburn Rovers defender, given the right-back spot in a much-changed Super Eagles starting line-up, finished the match, he was injured.
According to the team’s media unit, the England-born 24-year-old “sustained a deep cut on his right leg. Uncertainty surrounds his availability for the rest of the tournament.”
Cyriel Dessers, who is yet to play in Morocco, has a thigh problem and is scheduled for a scan today.
