Cyriel Dessers missed Panathinaikos’ 2-1 win over Panetolikos on Sunday due to an ankle issue…

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers will miss Panathinaikos’ UEFA Europa League fixture against Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday due to an ankle injury, Soccernet.ng reports.

Dessers has been dealing with an ankle issue since last week, after being on the receiving end of a bad tackle from one of his teammates during a training session.

That kept him sidelined for Panathinaikos’ 2-1 win over Panetolikos last week, and it seems that the issue still persists.

This is as Greek outlet Pao Pantou reports that the 30-year-old striker will not participate against Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League.

This will be a big miss for the Greek club, as Dessers has a lot of experience on the continent - recall that he won the Golden Boot in the first season of the UEFA Conference League.

Nonetheless, they will be banking on the other forwards like Karol Swiderski and Renato Sanches to do the business for them against Go Ahead Eagles.

Cyriel Dessers Doubtful For The Super Eagles’ Next Games

Cyriel Dessers will likely miss Nigeria’s next set of games later this month. Nigeria will play Lesotho and Benin in their last two games of the World Cup, and there are many strikers who have been doing well in Europe.

Paul Onuachu, Terem Moffi are two of the lot, who have been doing well in recent weeks and can replace Dessers easily.

So, even if the former Feyenoord striker recovers from injury soon, his lack of minutes and fitness issues will knock him out of contention for a place in the Super Eagles squad.
