Moses Simon registered his first goal of the season for Paris FC but could not prevent a heavy 5-2 defeat to Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigerian winger, who joined the newly promoted side from Nantes in the summer, struck in the 58th minute to make it 2-2 after Ilan Kebbal had earlier pulled one back for the visitors.

Simon’s finish, calmly slotted beyond Pau López, briefly gave Paris FC hope of taking something from the contest.

Marseille, however, proved too strong. Mason Greenwood opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the lead with a composed strike in the first half.

Kebbal’s goal on the stroke of halftime lifted Paris FC, and Simon’s equaliser early in the second half momentarily stunned the home crowd.

But the momentum shifted soon after Simon was replaced by Jean-Philippe Krasso in the 64th minute.

Aubameyang restored Marseille’s advantage almost immediately, before Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Robinio Vaz added further goals in the closing stages to complete a convincing win for Les Olympiens.

The result leaves Paris FC without a point after their opening two Ligue 1 fixtures. For Simon, the goal was a positive sign of his attacking influence, but his new side remain searching for their first top-flight victory.
