Super Eagles defender Ola Aina is set to pen a new long-term contract with English Premier club Nottingham Forest this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Aina is coming off a career-best campaign with the Tricky Trees, as he played a vital role from right-back. He featured in 35 Premier League games, chipping in with two goals and one assist, helping them to a seventh-place finish.

However, after an almost spotless campaign, Aina’s future has been a serious topic of conversation, as his contract officially runs out this month. But there is an automatic one-year extension clause if Nottingham Forest stay in the Premier League, which they already did.

But with one year on his Nottingham Forest contract, Aina is still almost as good as gone, as he could leave for free next summer. As such, the club have been looking at getting the 28-year-old to sign a substantial extension.

Both parties have been in talks for weeks, but according to the Telegraph, they are close to reaching an agreement, with an announcement imminent in the coming days.

Aina is expected to sign a two-year extension at least, which will keep him at the club until 2028.

After the success they achieved last season, Nottingham Forest will be looking to do more next season. They are also expected to bring in a player at right back.

Aina will have to do better than he did last season, to ensure he remains the first-choice right-back at Nottingham Forest.
