The victorious Super Falcons arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday evening to a rousing welcome following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Naijaonpoint reports that the senior national women’s team arrived at the forecourt of the Villa at about 4:40 pm in three white coaster buses, accompanied by officials and supporters.
The visit forms part of a series of celebrations and official engagements lined up to honour the team’s performance, which has once again brought pride and joy to Nigeria.
The Super Falcons staged a stunning comeback in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday night, defeating the host nation’s Atlas Lionesses 3-2 after going 2-0 down in the first half to clinch their record 10th WAFCON title.
Naijaonpoint had earlier reported that the Nigerian government showered praises on the Super Falcons following their stunning comeback win against Morocco.
The Federal Government of Nigeria described the Super Falcons’ performance as a moment of national pride that has etched the country’s name in gold across the continent.
“We warmly welcome our gallant Super Falcons on their triumphant return from Rabat, Morocco, where they emerged as champions of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,” a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
The Minister didn’t just see the victory as a footballing feat. He described it as a “stirring testament to the resilience, excellence, and indomitable Nigerian spirit that the Super Falcons continue to embody.”
“With unmatched skill, stellar performance, discipline, and unity, our national heroines have inscribed Nigeria’s name in gold on the continental stage, making the nation proud,” he added.
