Suspected Delta ritualist rapes 13-year -old girl to death, flees

A Delta State local government worker, identified only as Nwosu, is on the run after allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl to death at Issele Uku community in the Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

gathered that the suspected ritualist accosted the victim on Tuesday around 9pm when she was returning home from an errand her aunt sent her.

Our correspondents learnt that Nwosu allegedly hypnotised the child and took her to a nearby hotel where he committed the act.

The founder of a rights group, Behinds Bars, Harrison Gwamnishu, who spoke to one of our correspondents, said the victim was rushed to a hospital where she died.

He said, “The victim went to buy something on Tuesday night and on her way back home, the man, who was driving a white Hilux vehicle, stopped and asked her to enter the vehicle. She did not know the man before and she didn’t know when she entered the vehicle.

“The man drove her to a nearby hotel and raped her. After he finished, he gave her a white handkerchief to clean her private parts. The man collected the handkerchief and later dropped her somewhere to walk back home. It was when she got home that her sister saw that she was bleeding, and when she asked her what happened, the girl explained.

“The aunt called us that Tuesday around 11pm about the incident, but we couldn’t go there from Asaba because it was late. So, we told them to take her to the nearest hospital for treatment, but they could not take her to the hospital that night because there was no vehicle

“The next morning, the girl took them to the hotel which the man took her to and the people there confirmed that the man brought her to the hotel and they provided his name. She was also taken to a hospital, but the doctor referred them to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

“On their way, the vehicle developed a fault, while the girl was bleeding badly. So, they got another vehicle that took them to a nearby hospital where she was being treated till she died around 4pm.”

Our correspondents learnt that the incident was reported at the Issele-Uku Police Station.

Gwamnishu, who urged the police to find the suspect, lamented that it was the second rape case “we are recording at Issele-Uku.”

“We have taken the police to the mortuary to see the deceased and I think by tomorrow (Friday), the case should be transferred to Asaba.

“We want the police to intensify efforts to make sure the culprit is arrested and justice is served,” he added.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, said the command was investigating it.

He said, “Yes, it is true; efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspect, who is currently in a hideout.”.

Kano lawmaker, Danja pays N40m ransom to secure mother’s release

A lawmaker in the Kano State House of Assembly, Isyaku Ali Danja has paid N40 million ransom to secure the release of his mother from kidnappers.

Hajiya Zainab was abducted on January 12 at her residence in Gezawa local government area of Kano by gunmen.

According to Arewa Radio 93.1, the lawmaker paid N40 million ransom to the kidnappers to get his mother released.

Danja represents Gezawa Local Government at the House of Assembly where he currently serve as the Majority Leader, after he had once served as Speaker of the House.

Danja’s mother was released in Jigawa State by her abductors.

Friends of the lawmaker are rejoicing that his mother has been set free by the kidnappers.

According to Hon Lajin Adam Tajo, “All praise is due to Allah, God is great. May God reveal the mother of Isyaku Ali Danja. May God protect the future.”

Hajiya Zainab was abducted around midnight of Tuesday, January 12. Sources said the assailants entered Hajiya Zainab’s house in Gezawa Local Government Area around 1:00 pm armed, forcing the occupants to be taken to her room.

Suspected serial burglar nabbed in Ibadan over stealing of N2m phones, laptops, other items

Nemesis has caught up with a 23-year-old suspected serial burglar, Tobi Awoola, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for burglary and stealing of phones and accessories worth over N2million in Challenge area of the city.

Police operatives, attached to Felele Divisional Headquartres of Oyo State Command, apprehended him on Saturday January 22, 2022. He was said to have been living at a community on Oleyo Ayegun Road in Ibadan.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Adewale Osifeso, a Superintendent of Police (SP), made this known to journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday via a press release, which he issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko.

According to him, the success recorded in the case was part of conscious effort to continue ridding the state off unscrupulous and sinister-minded elements, describing the suspect as an habitual burglar in connection with a case of burglary and stealing, which occurred at about 8p.m on Thursday December 28, 2021 at Choice Plaza, Challenge area Ibadan.

Osifeso continued: “However, as a result of painstaking and diligent investigations, through the swift deployment of intelligence and tactical assets, the suspect, one Awoola Tobi ‘m’ was tracked and apprehended in possession of the following items which were hitherto reported stolen. These recovered items include; 16 I-Phone mobile phones, a white earpiece, one unbranded white coloured earpod, a Sony Vio laptop, one Dell laptop and a black shuttle bag.

“Preliminary investigations and voluntary confessions made by the suspect revealed that he broke into the mobile phone and accessories shop situated at Choice Plaza, Challenge, Ibadan. This time unaided with the intent of stealing and re-selling the items.”

Osifeso stated that efforts have been emplaced to break into the suspect’s criminal network, adding that state police command “seeks the cooperation of the good people of the state in providing credible and timely information to help maintain the relative peace and tranquility enjoyed in the State.”
