The Taraba State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that Governor Agbu Kefas is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to another political platform, specifically the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Naijaonpoint reports that the rebuttal follows the viral spread of images from an empowerment programme organised by the member representing Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency, Hon. Jafaru Chiroma, which featured the governor’s image alongside the acronym “ADC.”
In a statement on Sunday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, described the speculation as “baseless and misleading,” blaming political mischief makers for deliberately twisting facts.
Bello said, “Governor Kefas remains firmly committed to the Peoples Democratic Party.
“As a former state chairman of the PDP, he has continued to nurture the party’s growth and unity in Taraba State. His political loyalty has never been in doubt.”
He added that the governor’s relationship with the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu was strictly professional and focused on development, not partisan realignment.
“His partnership with the Federal Government is to bring democratic dividends to the people of Taraba, not in pursuit of any partisan alignment,” he stated.
Clarifying the controversy around the “ADC” acronym spotted at the event, Bello explained that it referred to Hon. Chiroma’s nickname, derived from his previous role as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to former Speaker and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
“Hon. Chiroma is popularly known as ‘ADC’ because of his role as Aide-de-Camp to Rt. Hon. Tambuwal during his tenure as Speaker and Governor,” Bello noted.
Bello further disclosed that the event in question was held under the banner of the PDP and attended by top party officials, including the State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, who officially represented the governor.
“The PDP’s presence at the event was clear and overwhelming, with flags and billboards prominently displayed,” he said.
He urged the public to disregard what he described as politically motivated falsehoods, reaffirming that Governor Kefas remains “steadfastly committed to the PDP and the progress of Taraba State.”
