The Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Legal Matters, Sani Marke, has endorsed the speculated plan by Governor Agbu Kefas to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a “masterstroke of political wisdom.”
In a statement issued in Jalingo on Tuesday, Marke praised the governor’s reported move as bold and visionary, saying it reflected genuine statesmanship and pragmatic alignment with the Federal Government’s development agenda.
Marke stated, “Governor Agbu Kefas has once again proven that he is a true patriot who puts the interest of Taraba first. His decision to align with the centre is not about political convenience but about expanding the frontiers of opportunity for our people.”
The governor’s aide argued that joining the APC would ensure Taraba was not excluded from national development initiatives. He described the reported decision as rooted in foresight and commitment to inclusive governance.
Marke further commended APC leaders in Taraba and the North-East, including Senator David Jimkuta, Uba Ahmadu, Senator Sani Danladi, Jerry Manwe, Ibrahim El-Sudi and Mustapha Salisu, for their openness and readiness to welcome Kefas into the ruling party.
He described their posture as “a show of unity and collective responsibility,” saying it underscored the governor’s reputation as a bridge-builder and peace advocate.
Urging Tarabans to rally behind the governor, Marke said this was the time to put aside party differences in the interest of development.
“This is the time for all of us to unite behind a common vision of prosperity and political harmony. The Governor has laid the foundation for a new Taraba built on inclusion and partnership,” he said.
Reaffirming his loyalty to Kefas, the aide pledged to mobilise broad-based support for the governor ahead of the 2027 general elections. He described the rumoured defection as “the dawn of a new era of progress and purposeful leadership for Taraba State.”
Kefas’ reported defection comes barely a week after PDP governors Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Peter Mbah of Enugu dumped the party.
If confirmed, PDP’s control of states would shrink further from eight to seven, tightening the APC’s grip ahead of the 2027 general election and consolidating President Bola Tinubu’s re-election chances.
