Flights between Tehran and Dubai are set to restart on Monday, Iranian state media reported, marking the reopening of a key air route weeks after the two countries were affected by the wider West Asia conflict.
Ramin Kashefazar, head of Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, said arrangements had been completed to resume services between Tehran and Dubai.
“The necessary arrangements have been made to reopen the Tehran-Dubai route at Imam Khomeini Airport,” Iranian state television and other media outlets quoted him as saying.
Tickets for a Monday morning flight operated by Iranian airline Sepehran were available for purchase, with the aircraft scheduled to depart Tehran at 10:40 am local time (0730 GMT).
The resumption comes after Dubai’s aviation sector faced repeated disruptions during the conflict, when the airport was targeted by drone attacks and temporarily suspended operations on several occasions.
Footage from one incident earlier in the war showed a drone crashing near the passenger terminal area, raising security concerns over one of the world’s busiest international aviation hubs.
Iran had launched missile and drone strikes across Gulf countries in response to US and Israeli attacks, though Tehran said its operations were directed at American-linked targets and not civilian facilities.
Before the conflict, Dubai International Airport was the world’s busiest airport for international passengers. However, passenger traffic dropped by 66% year-on-year during the period of hostilities as flight operations were disrupted.
The conflict has remained under a ceasefire since April, although sporadic exchanges of fire have continued. Meanwhile, the United States and Iran are engaged in a 60-day negotiation period aimed at reaching a broader and more permanent peace agreement.
