Terry Crews Pushes For Crackdown Movie Adaptation

untitled 18

Terry Crews expresses his hope for a live-action adaptation of Gears of War‘s rival franchise, Crackdown. Hollywood is currently experiencing a surge in video game adaptations, from The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) and A Minecraft Movie (2025), which both made $1 billion at the box office, to television shows like Prime Video’s Fallout and HBO’s The Last of Us, which have both won Emmys.

In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns for his Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Replacer campaign, Terry Crews said he would “absolutely love” to do a Crackdown adaptation and would welcome talks with Microsoft. He explains that successful video game adaptations depend on strong storytelling and believes Crackdown has the potential to translate into a feature film.

Crews envisions the adaptation with an intentionally exaggerated, “psychotronic B-movie” style, comparing its tone to The Running Man, and says the goal should be pure fun. He concludes by saying he is ready for the role and is still in great shape today. Read his full comments below:

Absolutely, I would love to do that. Any of these adaptations that they can do correctly, that’s just great. IP. It’s the same as in the comic world, it’s about whether you have that storyline and you can make it work. I would love to do something with and be a part of Crackdown, make it very psychotronic. Really B-movie to the extreme. I’m really looking forward to seeing The Running Man too. I feel like it’s that kind of era. I see it in that kind of vein, where you just have a whole lot of fun and and go for it. Please let Microsoft know I’m down. I’m still in shape too, so that’s how we do it!

Terry Crews as the main character in Crackdown 3

Released in 2007 for Xbox 360, Crackdown follows a genetically enhanced Agent whose mission is to dismantle three major crime bosses and their gangs in the dystopian Pacific City, and as they take down enemies and complete side activities like races and orb-collecting challenges, the Agent grows increasingly stronger.

It was followed by the sequels, Crackdown 2 (2010) and Crackdown 3 (2019), the latter of which features Terry Crews as the main protagonist, Commander Isaiah Jaxon, providing his voice and likeness. However, Terry Crews has long been a popular fan cast for another adaptation of an Xbox 360 game in Netflix’s live-action Gears of War movie, particularly in the role of Augustus Cole, aka Cole Train.

In a 2022 interview, Crews expressed interest in starring in Netflix’s Gears of War movie alongside Dave Bautista, who has been a popular fan cast for the role of Marcus Fenix:

Dave Bautista is a good, good friend and we talked about Gears of War years ago and I said, “Man, I would love to do this with you,” and he was like, “I’d love to do this with you.” Now, I just hear that they’re announcing this whole deal. It’s not up to me, but if I had the chance and if anyone wanted me for this movie and for this role, I would take it in a heartbeat. It is an amazing project. It’s an amazing game. Every part of that I would want to be in. I can’t wait to see who they do cast in the movie and whether I’m in it or not, I’m going to be watching. I’m a fan right along with everybody else.

Though the calls may be louder for Terry Crews to play Cole in a Gears of War movie, perhaps a Crackdown adaptation is the more logical choice, considering he has already appeared in the video game.
