TETFund To Spend ₦25 Billion To Install Streetlights, Other Security Facilities Across Tertiary Schools

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has set aside ₦25 billion to strengthen security infrastructure across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Chairman of TETFund’s Governing Board, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, disclosed this in Katsina while briefing journalists on the agency’s 2025 intervention projects.

Masari said the funds will be used for projects such as the installation of streetlights and other security-enhancing facilities aimed at protecting students, staff, and institutional assets.

“This intervention is to ensure that our campuses are safe and conducive for learning. Institutions will use the funds for projects that directly address security challenges, including improved lighting and other related measures,” Masari stated.

The former Katsina State governor also revealed that TETFund has released over ₦100 billion to selected tertiary institutions to expand their training capacity in medical sciences and address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country.

Under the initiative, three institutions from each geopolitical zone have received ₦4 billion each to enhance infrastructure and programmes in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and allied health disciplines.

Masari explained that the interventions were made possible through TETFund’s record ₦1.6 trillion revenue in 2025, generated from the 3 per cent education tax on company profits.

From this amount:

₦460 billion has been allocated to projects in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
₦225 billion was disbursed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support the federal students’ loan scheme.
₦70 billion has been set aside for institutions to develop solar or gas-powered energy systems to guarantee uninterrupted electricity for teaching and research.

Masari assured that the agency has a robust monitoring and evaluation framework in place, with consultants engaged to ensure that funds are spent strictly on approved projects.
