Teyana Taylor Ordered to Pay Ex-Husband Iman Shumpert $70K After Contempt of Court Ruling — And the Drama Is Juicy
Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s divorce just got messier — and Media Take Out has exclusive details.
The R&B singer and fashion icon was just found in willful contempt of court and ordered to cough up $70,000 to her ex-husband for his legal fees. Yep, sis is cutting a big check, and the court drama sounds like something straight out of a Bravo reunion special.
The August 5th Court Order
According to court documents, the judge dropped the gavel on August 5, 2025, after reviewing a heated back-and-forth between the former couple. Both Teyana, 34, and Iman, 35, accused each other of violating the terms of their 2024 divorce judgment.
They weren’t just trading shade — they were both asking the court to throw the other in jail over alleged contempt. (Teyana eventually dropped her request to have Iman locked up.)
The hearing took place on July 25 with both exes present, flanked by their attorneys. The judge listened to testimony, looked at evidence, and apparently saw enough to rule that Teyana had stepped out of line.
Why Teyana Lost
The big issue? Iman claimed Teyana violated a strict clause in their divorce agreement — one that banned either party from spilling details about the judgment. He pointed to a March 19 Instagram video in which he says Teyana willfullyshared prohibited info.
The judge agreed with him, writing that she was “in violation of the Final Judgment and Decree of Divorce and is in willful contempt.”

Teyana, for her part, tried to turn the tables, accusing Iman of leaking details about the split to the press. But the court wasn’t buying it. In fact, the judge said she “failed to present sufficient evidence” that Iman spoke to any blogs or media outlets — and even scolded her legal team for not doing the “minimal amount of diligence” before filing her contempt claim. Ouch.
The $70K Blow
Because the court found her in contempt, Teyana now has to pay $70,000 to cover Iman’s attorney fees. And the clock is ticking — she’s got two weeks from the court order to get it paid in full.
Iman argued that Teyana could afford it, noting she’s appeared (or will appear) in at least three movies since the divorce and has a TV series lined up for Fall 2025. The judge agreed, saying Teyana “failed and refused” to show any evidence that she couldn’t pay.
The Parenting Plan Drama That Went Nowhere
Iman also accused Teyana of violating their parenting plan, but that part of his claim was tossed. The judge said he didn’t prove she acted “willfully contemptuous” in how she handled parenting duties.
So, while both sides walked in trying to get the other busted, the scoreboard ended up one-zero in Iman’s favor.
What’s Next?
It’s unclear if Teyana will appeal the ruling, but one thing’s for sure — this divorce battle isn’t exactly cooling off. Publicly, Teyana has kept it cute, focusing on her music, acting projects, and being a mom. But behind the scenes? Court filings say otherwise.
As for Iman, the former NBA star seems to be taking his win in stride. He hasn’t commented publicly on the ruling, but with $70K on the way to his lawyer, he’s probably not too mad about how this round ended.
The Bigger Picture
Celebrity divorces always come with drama, but this case shows how fast things can spiral when social media gets involved. One Instagram post, one “off-the-record” conversation, and suddenly you’re writing a $70,000 check.
Moral of the story: In a high-profile split, the less you post, the better. Or at least make sure your NDAs and court orders are your new bedtime reading.
