The wait is over for a return to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, with a brand new sequel to the original film announced by Dynamite, sending Sally back to Christmas Town with a whole new breed of nightmare.

The announcement comes direct from NYCC, with Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town from Dynamite Comics continuing the legacy of the original film. Fans can enjoy their first look at the coming miniseries, along with the plot synopsis teasing the titular “Shiver” below:

The enigmatic Dr. Finkelstein, Sally’s creator, has another creation in the works. When he debuts an unusual, yet unexpectedly adorable creature as a new pet, Sally is tasked with taking care of it. Only for the three resident trick-or-treaters of Halloween Town to have it in tow as they embark on their journey to Christmas Town.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel Welcomes A New Monster To Halloween Town

The Latest Creation of Dr. Finkelstein Connects Both Halloween And Christmas

The 4-issue miniseries begins this January, recruiting the talents of writer Torunn Grønbekk (Red Sonja, Thor, Venom), artist Edu Menna (Army of Darkness), Adriano Augusto, and Taylor Esposito. Described as an “unforgettable trick-or-treating tale, perfect for all ages,” the follow-up story looks to be planting Sally in the spotlight, judging by the preview pages.

Next to the trio of Lock, Shock, and Barrel, the adorable cold-emanating stuffed polar bear “Shiver” stands out from Halloween Town’s creepiest residents. But as Grønbekk explains, the playful mix of whimsy and horror in the original movie is still very much at play in this new sequel:

“Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is a feast of imagination and dark delights, and it has been a joy to play in and contribute to this world. In our story, little goes to plan: tricks are played, treats are had, and along the way, Dr. Finkelstein’s new creation Shiver discovers the true magic of Halloween. Artist Edu Menna captures the gothic, whimsical atmosphere of the movie so beautifully, and I hope the book will introduce a new generation of readers to the enchanting world of Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

While a further reunion of both Sally and Jack Skellington will be at the top of every Nightmare fan’s wishlist, the hero of the original movie is noticably absent from this first look. But then, with this sequel story heading to Christmas Town in Halloween night, Jack could still make a cameo before the story is over.

These May Be The Only Nightmare Before Christmas Sequels That Are Ever Made

It May Seem Like A No-Brainer, But A ‘Nightmare 2’ Has All The Odds Against It

The new Shiver of Christmas Town continues Dynamite’s adaptation of the original Nightmare Before Christmas universe, having previously adapted the New York Times best-selling novel Long Live The Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw. Unlike other spinoffs or expansions, that sequel to the movie, in which Sally marries Jack and claims the royal title, is considered canon.

Unfortunately, producer Tim Burton has dismissed a Nightmare Before Christmas sequel ever becoming a reality on film. That may change once a few more decades have passed, but for the time being, Dynamite and Disney are doing their part to expand the lore, the cast, and the legacy of the film for Nightmare fans everywhere.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town #1 arrives in January 2026, from Dynamite.
