“The Noble Warrior’ back on stage July 11-13 for Soyinka@91

THE musical-dance drama with the Yoruba title “Eni Ogun” (translated to “The Noble Warrior”) written and staged in honour of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday in July 2024, is set for performance this entire weekend: July 11, 12, &13  2025, at 3pm and 6pm. The production effectively commemorates Soyinka’s 91st birthday, which comes up on July 13, 2025.

The Noble Warrior is musical theatre that blends music, dance, and drama to celebrate Soyinka’s legacy.

Written and produced by Cash Onadele, (aka Aiye-ko-ooto) a Nigerian-American playwright, poet, and producer, the play is  directed by Segun Adefila, a ranking Nigerian theatre figure.

Last year it was premiered in Abeokuta and later performed in Lagos.

This year it is scheduled to run from July 11th to 13th at the historic Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island.

The production will feature two shows daily— Matinee at 3PM and Champagne at 6PM.

At a recent press briefing in Lagos, Cash Onadele stated that his roduction company syndk8ml has received endorsements from the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation (CBAAC). He anticipates more sponsorships, partnerships, and endorsements,

Onadele hopes to build on the momentum generated by Adefia’s interpretation of the play in 2024, “to ensure African creativity thrives on a global scale, continuing to celebrate the enigmatic literary legend annually, even after he has transitioned”.

The Noble Warrior opens on July 11, 2025 and will run for three days (July 11, 12, and 13, 2025) at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos. Two shows are scheduled each day: Matinee at 3PM and Champagne at 6PM.
