The media aide to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the process of rigging the 2027 general elections.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ibe made the remarks during an interview on The African Settings Exchange Show on YouTube.
Atiku’s aide stated that the President Bola Tinubu-led government has nothing to show after more than two years, and they are working hard to “ensure that there is no opposition, whether it’s in the independent media, civil society or political parties, that is what they are doing”.
According to Ibe, the battle against opposition figures is “because they (APC) have nothing to offer after two years retaining mandate. The only way for them to win an election is to begin the process of rigging it, and that process has already started”.
Meanwhile, Paul Ibe has accused President Tinubu of running a dictatorship, saying Nigeria’s fallen pro-democracy icons would be horrified by the current state of affairs.
He lamented that the democratic gains secured at great human cost were being eroded under the present administration.
The spokesman recalled sacrifices made by notable Nigerians, including the late MKO Abiola, Major General Shehu Yar’Adua, and many activists who lost their lives in the struggle for democracy.
This democracy that we are practicing since 1999 was bought at a very high price to human rights. Chief MKO Abiola, Major General Shehu Yar’Adua, Abiola’s wife, lots of children, activists were all killed in that process. We paid a heavy price,” Ibe said.
