From Humble Beginnings to Global Impact
THE journey of The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards began as a vision born from a young street hawker’s dream to support his mother and uplift others in similar circumstances. In 2003, this vision materialised into a public relations consulting practice, driven by a mission to inspire organisations to prioritise humanity alongside profitability. The inaugural edition in 2007 saw a handful of pioneering organisations embrace sustainability as an African necessity, not merely a Western concept.
Transformative Stories Across Africa
From these modest beginnings, The SERAS has witnessed remarkable stories of transformation. Organizations from Kenya, Botswana, Nigeria, Malawi, Ghana,Rwanda, South Africa and many other countries have submitted entries, driven by their commitment to sustainability and community impact. These stories include the restoration of rivers, the empowerment of young Africans, the creation of new livelihoods, and the reimagining of futures.

As we approach our 20th edition, The SERAS stands as a testament to two decades of championing sustainability across Africa. We have pushed boundaries, provided corporate Africa with a mirror to reflect on progress and shortcomings, and fostered a culture that values competitiveness, compassion, profitability, and purpose. This milestone is not just about longevity; it is about legacy—our collective legacy.

The 20th edition in 2026 will not only celebrate our achievements but also issue a stronger call to action. In a rapidly changing world, Africa must rise intentionally, with sustainability as our anchor, compass, and opportunity. While numbers and metrics are inspiring, it is the human stories that resonate most deeply—the child attending school, the farmer doubling her harvest, the cataract patient regaining sight, the community with clean water, and the young graduate finding hope.
